Bio
I was born in Olympia, WA and was raised in Shelton, WA attending Shelton schools from elementary through high school. I must have passed Griffin School a million times to and from Olympia growing up without ever knowing it was there. After high school I moved to Phoenix, AZ to continue my education where I eventually met my wife, Lisa. When it was time for us to start our family, we decided to plant our roots back in the PNW. After extensive school district research, we found the best kept secret around, the Griffin School District and the greater Steamboat Island community.
I have had two professional passions in my life. Coffee and architecture. I started my professional career at Starbucks Coffee Company working in the Store Development department. I used my architectural education to execute the design of hundreds of Starbucks locations around the country. In 2003 I left Starbucks and founded Urraco Coffee Company in Shelton, WA. Though Urraco is now owned by my parents, my wife and I remain heavily involved in the business. In 2020 we opened our second location across the street from Griffin School in Steamboat Square because we love this community and saw the need for a great gathering place. Serving the Steamboat community has been one of the greatest blessings to our family over the past three years. In 2013 I co-founded FUZION Architectural Design, providing architectural and engineering services to commercial developers and national retailers such as T-Mobile, Verizon, and Starbucks.
My extensive small business ownership experience in both the coffee and architectural industries provide me with a unique skill set to contribute to the success of the Griffin School Board. From budget planning, to working on complex initiatives and programs that involve coordinating with diverse work groups to deliver on expectations and profitability, I always bring an enthusiasm for developing and working with effective team structures that create high-performance cultures.
Family
My wife Lisa and I were married in 2007. We are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters. Paige, age 14, just started her freshman year at Capital High School. Macie, age 11, just started 6th grade at Griffin. After three consecutive years of homeschooling, we’re so proud of these girls for getting back on campus with their student body and are very excited to see all that they will accomplish.
Community
I love being part of the Steamboat Island community. Whether I’m grabbing a coffee at Urraco, enjoying a beer at Tipsy Whale, picking up chicken feed at Companion Cove, or playing tennis and pickleball over at STAC, I love interacting with people from our community. If you see me out and about, please say hello, I’d love to meet you!
On my free time I coach my daughter’s soccer team and I volunteer with middle school kids every Wednesday evening at our church’s youth group. Spending time with elementary and middle school age kids has been an amazing experience and has given me a much better understanding of the issues facing our kids in and out of school that will help influence me as a Griffin School Board Director.
